I have Windows XP media center edition and all the DVD software it comes with doesn't work. It says it needs a DVD decoder. I downloaded Nvidia's "DVD pure decoder" on Nvidia's website but it worked like crap. It is pretty pathetic that Microsoft released the Media Center with DVD software that needs extra third party programs to work. Anyways, I would like to know what DVD decoders you recommend and I want to know if their is software that will allow you to download your movies on to your hard drive so you don't need the discs to play it on you PC? I know that DVD's usually prevent that because of the copyright laws but I think they have become much more lenient on that in recent time.

    My PC:
Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition
    Abit AN8 32x
    XFX 7800 GT graphics card
    Seasonic M12 SS-600HM
    Seagate 160GB

My Media Centre Laptop came with CyberLink Power DVD which works well as a decoder.

I have a feeling that VLC Media Player (which is free!!) may work as a DVD Decoder aswell.
