This PC is pretty new, although I've never used the DVD drive much until recently. It is a Optiarc DVD RW AD-7203S.

I've tried about 5 different movie DVD's in this drive, all of them had problems of some sort. Only one movie I was able to watch all the way through, but I had problems playing some of the bonus material. Others froze half way through the movie, or just failed to register at all.

I don't know if this is the drive, the DVD's or some sort or piracy protection. All of the DVD's worked perfected on my TV's DVD player.

See if the DVDs will play using VLC Media player. If they do, then your DVD drive is fine. If not, then it's most likely a fault with your DVD drive.

At the moment I can't get a DVD to show up on the drive let alone play it on any software. Data DVD's seem to load up fine, but movie DVD's aren't coming up at all. At least the 2 that I'm trying to watch now.

Windows Vista 64 bit desktop PC
    Q9300 Quad Core
    NVIDIA 8800GT
    4 gig ram

I'd suggest checking that your DVD drive is set to the correct region. I can't remember how to do that though... :(
