I have an e-machine that I'm trying to fix. The BIOS doesn't load. I've installed a new motherboard, power supply, and processor. I've got power on all the components, but BIOS doesn't load. I've tried changing the memory from another machine, but I'm not sure if it's compatible or what. Should I go back to the store and buy memory specific for the motherboard I bought... I'm scare of spending more money and it still doesn't work. Please Help... Mike
Well do you know what your old RAM was? If not then take it out of the machine and there should be a sticker on it giving some details, let us know what those details are. Then try and find some RAM that matches what the motherboard can take (we can help on this) I would have originally said it's a bad motherboard but since you've changed the Motherboard CPU and PSU it can lead me to think only RAM or Graphics is bad and I think it's probably got onboard graphics...if not then let us know.
Staff members, Has the forum got a sticky on 'Starting with Barebones how-to'? I think it can be handy for queries like this one. Then users can direct people straight there with a link etc.
You are right, it does have onboard graphics. The memory module is 256MB DDR 266 MHZ. I tried it with the memory that the computer I am currently using has which a 512MB DDR 2700 The motherboard is: PM800-M2 from ECS EliteGroup. P4 FSB 800 Do I need to try different memory? Please Help... Mike
You shouldn't need different RAM, as that should work already. I'd replace some more components to find out the bad component.
Where do I start replacing components? The BIOS doesn't come up at all. The motherboard has built in graphics, built in sound... The only thing left is the hard disk, but I don't even get there when turning the computer on. If the hard disk fails, you usually get some type of error message when the system boots up. I would feel fortunate if I could get that far. Mike
Are you trying to say that your BIOS wont allow you to enter it VIA the del key OR it freezes when trying to access it?
I can't get in at all, it doesn't load... I don't see anything on the monitor at all. The only sign of life is the light indicators from the dvd drives and the hard disk. Mike
