Core 2 (aka, Conroe) is exciting, but the motherboards supporting the new CPU have been asking close to $200 or more. Fortunately, Epox has a sub-$100 solution based on the older i945 chipset, the EP-5P945 Pro. [H]ard|OCP takes it for a spin.

The EP-5P945 Pro is exactly a no-frills package. That said, it does not sacrifice stock performance or stability in any way, shape, or form. The EP-5P945 Pro proved to be stable in two days of torture testing even when cutting off any forced airflow to the northbridge cooler and power components. The board did get very hot, but just kept on going.

While it's not an overclocker's board, it does make getting into a Core 2 Duo much less daunting.
