I'm using my uni to connect to the internet. on friday their was an outage on the server and I thought there was a problem with my computer so I rolled back a driver for my ethernet port and did stuff like that.

now when I connect a cable to it the green or orange lights that used to show up are no longer lit and the network icon says that there is ltd or no connectivity. I have tried my computer in mates halls and they have used theirs in mine. theres are all fine so I know that it is my computer.

I hit some restore points and I have also tried disabiling and then enabiling the adaptor as well as different cables.

I have uninstalled the card and then let windows reinstall it again but the lights still won't light up when I plug the cable in.

my last resort would be to reboot my computer but it wud b a lot of hassle backin up the hard drive and then reinstallin on the software I want back on it.

can anyone recommend anything else that I could try in order to get it to work or even what might be causing the lights not to go on. it appears that the computer knows that there is a cable plugged in but it isn't on the internet or lan or anything.

any ideas. many thanks guys. skribla

    Hi,
It would be easier if your could give us some more information about your PC, OS used and such.
If your friends PC gained a connection through your LAN connection point then its possible that your NIC card has failed. I would first try a new NIC card as they are only cheap and alot less hassle than backing up and formatting.
    Hope this help's.

If the lights aren't working on your computer then the problem lies elsewhere. Check the cables, switches, servers whatever
