Ultima Online: Obsidian Shard is a totally free version of Ultima Online, it's well recommended. As far as per monthly costs go, I'd say the cheapest are WoW and FFXI, last I checked they were roughtly the same price.

That's a very narrow-minded viewpoint. I can understand not liking a game for a gameplay feature but as it has been proved throughout the ages: "Graphics don't make a game" so just as amazing graphics don't always mean great games (Half Life 2), bad graphics don't mean it's a bad game.
half life 2 has great graphics, also, i dont like 2d rpg's, i like 2d games like rollercoaster tycoon, and now roller coaster tycoon is 3d, its rubbish.
I reckon its enough you have to buy the game you shouldnt have to pay extra to play it! I think WoW is $20AU which isnt too bad a price i guess.
That's what I was saying, Half Life 2 had great graphics but it was a rubbish game, but still you don't like 2d rpgs, just because they're 2d. All games were 2d to begin with and if they weren't then we'd never have 3d. I don't mind paying a small amount to play online, when it's hardly anything a month I don't really notice, just inspires me to keep on playing it so I'm not wasting money.
half life 2 is a great game, and even better online, its not rubbish at all, 2d rps's are boring, becouse of it bieng 2d, the enviroment seems crap, games may of started off 2d, but thats gone, its 3d now, 2d is dead and gone, (not including rct games)
Half life 2 lacks the two elements that make a great game, storyline and gameplay. The only thing that game had going for it was the physics engine. Your arguement against 2d games is still not solid, they're boring because they're 2d? What kind of a statement are you trying to make? Seriously, 2d games were and still are amazing to play, because a true gamer doesn't concern himself with what a game looks like, they play a game for the storyline and gameplay, graphics and sound are just bonuses that add to the experience. You can ask any retro gamer on this site (and believe me, there are many of them) and they will agree with me.

I wasn't saying that either, I'm just saying that it seems strange you don't like 2d games simply because they're 2d, there's no actual reason to it. I could understand if there was a particular aspect of games that made you dislike them, but not trying a game simply because it's 2d seems really strange.

i have seen screenshots of ultima online, and i think it seriously sucks. and i havent seen a decent 2d game exept for rct, and now rct has gone 3d with rct3, rct 3 is rubbish.
