I like to think I'm quite a competent software user, as well as a fairly competent maths guy, however this has got me stumped.

See image for list of numbers.

My grandad is trying to get the numbers in yellow to add up, to find a total.

He used a calculator, and achieved the same total, as the one excel shows at the bottom of the program (shown.)

I also used a calculator to add them up manually, and got the same answer.

However, using the SUM() function produces a number that is 3000 quid out, give or take.

Please explain? Am I missing something uberly simple or is it just mad?

    Thanks.

Edit - I should probably say that by making a new sheet and typing the data in again it works fine, but I'm a little curious as to why it didn't work in the first place. The only forumla on the sheet were the =SUIM(start:end). Nothing else.
