This weekend I was feeling a little bored, as my PC is in a pile and my game selection is very limeted I felt something had to be done. And wouldn't you know it my family and I were going to Walmart. So after nerviously fidgeting around in the electronic section worring my parents wouldn't take too kindly to my spending I bit the bullet and bought a new slim and sexy PS2, StarWars III Revenge of the Sith and a 4GB RCA Lyca mp3 player. By no means was all this a steal at $364 but I'm very impressed with what I came out with. The Lyca is a very slick player, the sound is rich, the controls excellent, fast and smooth, and the design is stylish and slick. For $150 I'd say it trounces the iPod. I still can't get over how incredably small the PS2 is, the pics you see do it no justice until you hold the thing. It's like a 4th the size of the origional but the gfx still look pretty good to me. Although my TV is pretty old school so it's hard to make out some of the text. I may concider replacing it sometime. And StarWars is pretty cool too, it's not the most amazing game ever made but it makes everything you do look fluid and natural, button mashing has never felt so good. I might have bought and XBOX instead but that would be kind of dumb with the 360 coming next month and the PS2 simply offered way more games that interested me like Tekken, Soul Calibar, God of War, etc. I figured if was going to get one it might as well play the stuff I wanted. Might post pics later if you all want.
rca does make some pretty cool mp3 players. the slim ps2's are pretty cool and it's hard to think about how i nearly crapped my pants when i started playing red alert on ps1 then to see the ps2 at 1/4 it's size stand high and mighty. once i start thinking about that, i realize how much it would suck to live in medieval times
Nice one Ex, all good products i see, no cheapos' for you eh? I splurged a little today too! I spend $200 on a new fish tank and fish, although it would have been better spent a my computer but hey, too late now! I was also surprised on how small the PS2 is, the only thing i feel it needs is a internal power adapter, not external, but thats the price you pay for compact electronics. Anyway, good luck with it all
Thanks guys Fish...nice, I used to have a bunch of them too, great guys, them. My only regret is not thinking to pick up an overpriced memory card, I just assumed the PS2 came with one but I guess I was wrong. So I'll just have to play it over again I guess. I can probably trade something for one off of one of my friends. You'd think at 8MB they'd be like $5 but no Sony still charges $20 or whatever after all these years.
Yeah, the memory cards are $55 in australia still, they were $65 when they come out! I don't think i've ever seen a playstation come with a memory card except in those 'special packs' where you get a game aswell!
Alright well I'm still happy with my PS2 and game but the Lyca is annoying me a bit now. It was doing just fine for the first few hours and then all of a sudden after "profiling" (whatever that does) two virticle lines appear on screen. It's like the pixels went dead but at the same time still work. They still respond to the backlight and they aren't black but the same color as the background but they no longer can display any images or text. So basically the players still works as well as ever but the screen is horrid now (wasnt' the greatest to begin with). I'm a little ripped but I'm not in the mood to do anything about it so I'll just live with it, basically nothing is broken, just flawed.
Memory cards over here are like £19.99 for an official ps2 one. Its really bad. Oh and nice spending spree
Yeah nice one Ex, i have a slimline PS2 and they are amazingly tiny...i aggree with what pelvis_3 said about the power adapter but its bot a big issue, i was so tempted to buy a PSP today, i had lots of money in my account (from my birthday...bought a new GFX card for PC but had more ) and was in a shop and i was like "i so wanna buy one...but i cant, i need the money..."
