Those explosions are really bad, I live like 5 minutes walk away, my whole house shook this morning. There was a big flash then I heard the loudest bang I've ever heard, it was earsplitting, the whole sky was glowing orange...I could see the flames from my house, they were :swear: HUGE!
My friend who lives a bit closer had his windows blown, some people I know might be evacuated because of poisinous smoke...
People as far as South London felt and heard the blast...damn it was big.
They reckon it's going to go on for days.
There are a total of 20 tanks there and each can contain up to 3 million gallons of fuel, last I heard 5 had gone up...
That's all I know, been out paintballing today so didn't find much more out, although the paintballing centre is like 10 miles away (I reckon) the sky was still black...Well time to take a shower then eat, Matt is all battered and bruised :(

Yeah the flames were huge and the smoke just covers half the sky, the wind was blowing it over a large area, as I looked out of my window I saw clear sky one side and smoke and what looked like something from what people would call the sky of hell on te other...(I've attached pictures of view from my window...)

I live in Watford, about 5-6 miles away.
We woke up from the shock-wave which literally moved the whole house!
We started looking wround the house to see what happenned.
I seriously thoughtt the roof was caving in......

Hope you are just badly shaken and nothing more and can get back to normal soon.....
    All the best.....

    Yeah I'm good.
The explosion just woke everyone up, it was at 6am here and I honestly thought a giant bomb had gone off, the house rumbled a little then shook violently, then there was a flash and an almighty bang, I rushed around trying to see what it was then through my blinds in my room I was flickering orange. I looked outside and saw these enormous flames over the houses and the sky was just orange.
My house isn't damaged by people in my street have had their doors and windows caved in, one of my friends has had all his windows smashed from the blast.
The smoke is just really scary though, it looks really intimidating and threatening.
sabashuali can you see much of the smkoe from your area? Because yesterday half of our town was covered in thick black smoke. the other half wasn't as the wind was blowing it over the other half.
Anyway I may go for a walk now and see if I can see what's going on up there now. School got closed today so I got extra sleep! w00t!

There's some images of the fire and smoke, it's still burning now as I sit here on my computer looking at the smoke through my bedroom window, firefighters are trying to blanket it with foam and water, they had to wait until they had enough foam to mount a sustained attack otherwise it would have been wasted resources. Apparently they are pumping 32,000 litres of water a minute...

As its an oil depot, its not gonnq be easy to put out. And think of the environmental consequences of this.

It's a good job we have invaded Iraq, as we can take all of their oil instead...... as George Dubbyah might say

I honestly don't see the funny side, things are really bad and if it spreads then I'm screwed.
One tank has re-ignited after foam sprayed on it, on has collapsed and one tank has an unknown substance in it, they don't know what's in there, kerosine, petrol, diesel, oil....
It's still raging and smoke is still pouring, I just went near there (went for a walk, been told to stay inside but I had to pick something up from somewhere) and I could see the flames, bright orange and immense amounts of smoke.

They've ceased activities because they're expecting another explosion from an unknown potentially volatile liquid in a tank.
This is bad, and I've got near front row seats, I'm expecting my house to shake and rattle soon if there's an explosion. People are being evacuated incase of this explosion and this fuel may be avation fuel (kerosine) which is highly explosive so the blast could be massive, damn I'm quite scared actually, this could get real bad and I don't want it to spread...

    You sound quite stressed, understandably.....

Can you stay with someone further away for a few days?

    This looks nasty!

Me personally I am a little scared, I have friends who live very close and one who's garden practically backs onto it.
The thing is it's not directly affecting me at the minute but if it spreads then it could be real bad.
The thing that confuses me is how can they not know what's in one of the tanks? They have to know, unless it's something bad and they don't want to tell us, all they're saying is it's volatile and potentially very very dangerous.
As for the environmental thing this fuel would have just been burnt anyway, but because it's burning quickly and in a concentrated area it seems worse, people in cars, planes trucks, vans etc etc would have burnt this fuel anyway.
I would grab my computer and run but there's no need to and my computer is way to f*cking heavy to carry and run at the same time...
Well I'll keep ya'll posted and if I manage to get a picture of this 'unknown substance' when it explodes...I'll post it for ya!

Just read bbc's website and fire fighters are to resume work after the 'volatile fuel' might not be as bad as first thought...
Can't see much now, I reckon they've got the fire down a bit as the sky isn't as orange as it was yesterday or early this morning...

Yeah, yesterday morning I was one of the first from my area to be up there looking, people in other closer areas were already out when I got to the top of my road and saw the flames. It was rather like something from a movie, the women looking through windows and holding children as the men rushed off to investigate. But when I actually saw the flames I couldn't move, I was really shocked...I just hope the people who've been evacuated and those who've lost homes are/will be okay. Now they're saying no-one got killed, yesterday there were reports of 8 people dead. Mostly it's just injuries from flying glass, objects and debris.
If I could go up there (somewhere near outside the police boundaries) and take shots I will, I might go soon but I'm not sure. The cloud of smoke is now visible from space, satellites are picking it up. I've seen loads of helicopters flying around and their view must be incredible!
Saw footage from sky news (http://www.sky.com/skynews/home) inside the depot, it looks scary in there, my thoughts and prayers go to the fire fighters battling to contain/stop this fire. I wish them all the luck in the world and I hope no-one get's hurt or killed.
