Ext. HD ?

    Can you save programs like MS word on these and then when you get a new computer just load it on from there, instead of buying the CDs. Or can you jsut save files and settings.

    sometimes that works. I've done it with various programs but settings and stability are often issues. Since windows relies on a registry for a lot of data associated with programs it's not a good idea.

    Yes programs which require registry to be available won't work, so you can't take a program to place to place. Although you can with data which is what its supposed to do.

    yeah i just thought maybe in the future i could get around rebuying certain expensive programs
