I have a problem. I want to have a backup for all my data such as games, files, songs, shows, etc. Can any of you suggest any brands and capacity for a good external hard drive? Will it even last long? Cause I heard from a friend that it doesn't really last long. Not sure if he's correct though. Thanks.

They last as long (if not longer) as the hard drive that they are made up from, they are susceptible to the same hardware failures as actual hard drives.

Best thing is to stick to a good brand that has a loooong warranty period and never void it by opening it. Western digital, Toshiba, Maxtor I would say from my personal experience make the best (toshiba tending to be the best bang for buck - i have two of their 1tb externals for backing up cost 60 quid a piece :) )

Aye best to keep backed up - nothing more gutting that a complete data loss!

If you don't like the software that comes with it why not write your own backup script using robocopy - I'm a complete convert and regularly re-write them for clients who hate the crappy bundled software that comes with these drives.

You can do that? Sorry, completely new to external hard drives. Thanks for the info.
