I recently purchased a 1TB Fantom Drive "G-Force" external hard drive, needing a place to put all the files i had previously been burned to DVDs. It worked great right out of the box for a couple of day, but then spontaneously started to emit strange noises. I tried rebooting my computer and the drive, and upon turning on the drive it now emits those same noises for a couple of seconds, stops, and then shows the red light usually meaning a transfer is occurring. I'm quite sure no transfer is occurring since my computer has stopped recognizing the connection, not even in giving me a hardware alert when i plug it in. Im seriously lost here, I might be able to do something if my comp recognized the device, but instead all the drive is now is a box that can show a pretty red light! Thanks in advance and i'll give as much information as i can if anyone needs more. Alex
because your drive is not being recognised in windows PLUS the fact the drive doesn’t spin /makes funny noises suggests the internal board on the drive is faulty, above all the drive needs to be replaced unfortunately there isn’t a lot you can do with faulty hardware but to take it back.. you can try removing the hard drive from the enclosure and testing it out (BEWARE YOU DONT VOID YOUR WARRANTY) but since it doesn’t spin properly seems like there isn’t much point. i see another possibility the hdd enclosure itself could be faulty, that would also suggest the drive not being detected but if thats the case I’m bewilded as to why the drive doesn’t spin-up properly my only suggestion is to get the whole thing replaced under warranty because its new it will be under warranty so get in touch with the manufacture /provider and create an RMA good luck
Thanks! Thats what i was afraid of, but I guess theres nothing else I can do. At least i have most of my files elsewhere, I feel bad for people who would lose everything.
