many thanks to you for reading this my first problem! i have a dell dimension 2300 which i purchased in 2002. i have had many a happy hour playing with the software which was also from dell which enabled me to edit my digital dv camera video footage. i did this by attaching a firewire lead into one of two firewire ports at the back of the computer, the other port was used by my 160gb external hard drive. some 6 weeks ago the ports ceased to work and i called dell. They gave me instructions to adhere to to make the ports work, alas nothing they tried has worked. i have had a new firewire card plus a new motherboard and still these ports will not work. On the instructions of dell they have advised to save all my work and reboot, this i want to avoid so has anyone of you any other suggestions?[/B]
What I would do is uninstall the ports, reboot and let Windows detect them again. Also, look in the BIOS and make sure they are enabled. It should be under "Integrated peropherals" if I'm not mistaken.
thanks, but ive checked and tried this and the ports are detected they just wont work! any other ideas?
you could always reinstall windows. Last resort, or if you havent done one in about a year, just backup all your important data, and reinstall it.
just get all the files you want, burn 'em to cd's! You should try doing a repair though, that's what I do when stuff F----'s up.
