Hey guys, this is my first post, Im glad to see a community that supports each other in helping with others problems, its great. Anyways I just bought a JVC GR-D290U and I would like to connect it to my Laptop firewire (4 pin to 4 pin) from the camera to the computer. Now, I was never given a driver for my firewire for my laptop and I have never tried to find one until I had a purpose for the port. Now when I try to do everything the manual says about connecting the camera to the firewire, nothing happens. Nothing. No drivers pop up to say that its been identified and it just sits there. I have tried disconnecting, turning off the computer, updating the firewire windows SP2 update, disconnecting the cable from the cam, reconnecting the cable to the cam and then turning on the cam, and nothing works. My chipset is an sis650 from www.SIS.com and I couldn't find a driver there either. My bios has nothing to do with it either, (American Megatrends) and the IEEE 1394 driver does not show up in my Device Manager either... So I cannot even install drivers for any device until I get the hardware Identified.. Please help if you can, Its not easy here... Thanks in advance. - Justin
Check the BIOS to see if the port has been disabled. If that's not it I would suggest a fresh reinstall if that is possible. If you can get one, try a Linux Live-CD to see if Linux can read the port. If it doesn't then you probably have a dead port.
hi m8 if ya tell me the naem of the fire wire card and what ya wnat drivers for ill try get them u. cheers DAve :good:
Hey, thanks for the support guys. Here is a picture of what my Bios uploads upon restart. It shows the PCI devices, and I am wondering if anything like the firewire port should show up here. I cant seem to find what kind of firewire port it is, but I will see what I can do. And Dave I PMed you on what was happening with your help.
