hi, ive been having some problems, ok a major problem, in getting my floppy drive to work. The floppy just isnt been recognised by waindows at all. the light on it isnt even flashing when i turn my pc on and its shows no signs of life. I have tried 3 different floppy drives and 3 different flobby cables all in combination and I'm having no luck. i thought maybe I had the cable in the wrong way in the back of the floppy, so I switched it around and turned my computer back on. the light on the floppy then turned straight on but it was constant until i turned the pc off. also it wasnt found by windows. By the light coming on I'm guessing its not a power problem. I have looked in my bios and the floppy controller thing is enabled. I really cannot see the problem with it. If anyone has any idea what i can do please reply. thanks cliffyboro
If your floppy drive light stays on until you switch your PC off, that means you have to cable upside down. If you have tried 3 different Floppy drives and 3 different cables on the same motherboard, that suggests to me the floppy controller on the motherboard is bad. Can you confirm these floppy drives work in other motherboards?
i have now sorted my problem out. all i done was go into my bios and set it back to the default settings. Dont know how it solved the problem as I dont mess around with my bios and havnt changed anything in it before. thanks anyway cliffyboro
Well thats good news.. Chances are, your BIOS was set to a different size or type of floppy. What you want is 3 1/2 inch 1.44MB. Some BIOS contain support for older generation 3 1/2 inch with a size of 720KB. Some even support 5 1/4 inch disks. Now that brings it all back.....
