Hi all, got my AMD64 machine working finally, i replaced the bios chip on the motherboard (with a bit of difficulty i might add) but none the less it works.

I installed a basic Win2K Pro OS and drivers e.t.c and loaded some games to see how it would perform, my temperatures are REALLY low.. even when CPU is really doing intensive stuff like Battlefield Vietnam on 64 player multiplayer server :good:

Just wondering does anyone else get this.. it's not really a problem but I left F@H running whilst i was asleep out of interest.. for just over 11 hours i woke up went to check it, and my cpu temparture was the highest i had seen it! (51.0C)

Now i know it's not a worrying temperature, but i don't really want a new cpu running at that if i am having it on all the time..

p.s I did disable my outlet fan on the case as its incredibly loud. But none the less what do you think?

I've found that F@H gets your CPU hotter than anything else out there. I'm not up on the good temps for A64's are, but depending on the weather, my XP2400+ goes up to 55*C under load with F@H, but with the coming winter, I'm sure the temps will be in the lower 40's.

I've got an AMD64 folding right now, and I can say with assurance that it's running at 42C after 11hours of folding... However, this system has a Thermaltake Venus 12 cooler, which is a real beast.

My only dissapointment when folding on an AMD64 is that there is no 64-bit folding client, therefore one cannot take advantage of the extra registers and L2 cache of the 64-bit CPU. :(

I wish I owned an AMD64. It's just a system I'm building for somebody else... I can't even afford a video card to replace my crappy FX5200!

Woo hoo. I'm finally starting to build a 64-bit system. Ordered the chassis, PSU, and mobo so far! Then, when I get good internet, i'll be FOLDing on my current system and my AMD64 3500! :D

    Nice :D

Basically i have just run 3DMark2001SE and PCMark04 on full loop tests for over 6 hours, and the highest CPU temp i have received was 43C (stock HSF), F@H puts the cpu up by about another 8-12C, highest i've seen it was 50-55C after 12 hours of F@H @ 100%.

I'll system is relatively quiet, the only thing making noise really are the back 80mm outlet fan (which cost me £0.99) :D and then the HSF.

Once i've sorted out certain things such as Xmas pressies, travel expenses and my ski holiday, i'll see what i can afford, but i'll most likely be after 2 x 80mm silent case fans and a thermal take HSF for my AMD64 + 120mm silent fan for it.

Then after xmas, i'll most likely get a new graphics card, 2 raptor hard drives and some new cabling, and another 512mb Geil.

    Nice.
Wish I had money to spend like that. *Starts crying cuz too young for a job*
I used to be loaded then I stopped *cough*selling cds. Yeah the HD could be better on yours but the Raptors will help. You putting them in RAID?

Yeh course i'll put them in raid.

    Things i need:
    New DVD-Rom (Silver) £18
    New Floppy (Silver) £6
    New 80mm Silent Case Fans x2 £25
    New HeatSink (ThermalRight XL-120) £25
    New HeatSinkFan (120mm Silent) £12
New Hard Drive (Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM) - 1 to start off then 2nd later on. £75
    New Graphics Card £150-£200
    2nd 512Mb Geil PC3200 (2 make 1GB) £65

Total I'm looking at for a complete pc with nothing else i need:
    £451

    *Edit

As for the temperatures, i didn't realise but my exhaust fan was not connected, i've connected it and had it running F@H for 10 hours and its gone no higher than 45C
So i'll be looking at about £850 spent on my new pc total.

Although the majority of this i'm not in desperate need, really just need another 512Mb memory, dvd and hsf :good:

Also as a general question.. it's been on all day (started a fresh WU) since 7:30am (it's now 18:00) so 10 1/2 hours its been on, and i've done 8% of the whole WU!? it's a 2.5 Million Step WU i presume thats big?

I've calculated that i'm doing 317.5 steps per minute on my AMD64 system..

    Is this bad or good?

I'm not in it for the competition.. but would really like to know if my system is upto par with similar systems?
