Formatted win 2000 pc to put xp on

The install went smoothly but when the computer boots up there is an option to boot into Windows 2000, obviously it has been deleted so thats not possible and when you try you get and error and it reboots. Im sure Ive had this before and theres a way of getting rid of it.(The option to boot into Windows 2000) Does anyone know how?

right click my computer>properties>advanced>startup and recovery settings>then edit the file there.

Are you using just one drive?
And if you are, have you got more than one partition on the drive?

It is easy enough to be confused by the XP-installer partitioning tool.
If you are doing a fresh install from scratch, the best thing to do (IMO) is to explicitly delete all existing patitions and format (not a quick one) the hard disk.
Thus making sure that any former data is truly gone, including the MBR.

Two ways of getting rid of the unwanted entry:
1. Via windows.
2. Via the recovery console.
