Incredibly, one of my favorite record labels and my favorite audio player have joined forces. From the article: "London, United Kingdom (October 14, 2005)-- Online record label Magnatune (www.magnatune.com) and the amaroK software project have partnered to offer amaroK Live version 1.3, a bootable Linux CD with the amaroK music player and featuring 20 selections from leading Magnatune artists in the open-source-friendly Ogg Vorbis file format. Each developer on the amaroK team picked their favorite songs from Magnatune, creating an eclectic portrait of what open source pioneers like to listen to. The collaboration affirms that 'sometimes you get more than you paid for.' Created by a team of volunteers, amaroK Live 1.3 is available to the public for free at www.amaroklive.com. With its offering of Magnatune music and introduction of many new features, users are able to focus on playing and managing music with ease at no charge." Unfortuantely if you're a Windows user, amaroK is a Linux-only application. Fortunately if you're a Windows user, they've put together a very nice Live CD of PCLinuxOS (based on Mandriva Linux), amaroK, and the aforementioned open source music from Magnatune. There is also some very nice cover art which you can print and label your shiny new disc. Everything you need to get going, no previous Linux experience needed. In summary: A free bootable ISO containing a free operating system with the excellent and free audio player amaroK and containing free high-quality music from Magnatune. Read the article. Burn the disc. Life is good. -AT
very good idea, wonder why it hasn't already happened. magnatune is probably the best place to go for me when i need music. it's also not blocked in my school's filter
Yeah, that's what I thought too. It's also worth mentioning that you can stream every piece of music on the Magantune label for free as 128kbps MP3s on www.magnatune.com. Also, you get to set your own price for the music you buy from them, and 50% of the take does directly to the artist. Really great record label.
This is great! Despite my struggles with Linux, it's great how I just clicked on the song and it played!
