Future cards

I was just wondering, if you guys know, what are the upcoming graphics cards in the coming months? in september? I plan to get a new graphics card! range would be £300 if every thing goes to plan :)

I know there are plenty of graphics cards in that range, but reviews, give mixed results about cards, at the moment I am not too keen on Gainward cards, cuz of what happened to my Ti4200 :( I've read alot of people had the same problem with this type of card...do you think a 256MB card would be a good idea?

I know ATi's R400/420 is coming up, and should be the high-end graphics cards. That'll probably run about $300-400USD, so it should be within your price range. The only thing I'm worried about is that the PCI Express standard. AGP 8x should be the last in the AGP lines before PCI Express takes over. I haven't really done much research, but Rage 3D is likely to have some info, or at least some links, about it.

no too much info on them yet, I am kinda put off a bit, spending alot of money, reading else where, people say that its not worth spending too much, it cuz the games will come very demanding in the near future, like doom 3, though I dont mind, as long as the card can last over a year to two, my ti4200 (now faulty) could play every thing considering, my low system specs, so it doesnt bother me too much but still....hmmm!

As I am looking to play games, mainly, even if I wont, I want to have sometthing decent, since I will prob also buy a PS2, which has some very good games, and I think PS3 is due in 2005, so plenty of more games are bound to come out!

What I'd do is wait for the R400, and get a R350 card since they'll drop in price: like a nice 9800np that you'll oc to 9800 pro speed :)

But there'll probably be a midrange version of the R400, just like the 9600 pro for the R350.

ATi will likely rename the 9600 and 9800's to better fit whatever naming scheme they put up with R400.
