Geforce 6600 Turbo Force!

had a tight budget and picked one of these up by giga-byte, it is a giga-byte geforce 6600 128bit 256mb PCI-Express card,with soundless heat pipes.

However i am little concerned about the temperature!I will be honest and say i dunno if its good or bad, i know that these kind of cards create absolutley soaring heat but i dunno how much! Or how to tell just how hot it is! can anybody help here!Its clocking at its default settings so i guess that its not over clocking, during games though it does get louder and hotter!

well what are you botherd about, if the heatpipe cooling came with the card then it will be perfectly ok, i have a x800xt pe that uses a fan to cool it down and its at 45 degrees, and heat pipes are much much better so its going to be cooler surely.
 
keep playing games, i think 58 degrees is ok, but for heat pipe i dont know, your graphics card will be ok at 58 degrees i think.
 
before doing anything drastic you could try and position a fan to help the Heat Pipe cooler along a bit and see what happens...(just an idea really)
 
DONT pannic so much, stick your new graphics card back in, its ok!, ok i know its a very hot, did it actually come with the heatpipe then?

i would use an 80 or 60mm fan, just mount it under the card, what i did with my 9600np is mounted a 60mm fan on the passive heatsink of the gpu using tie wraps.
 
58* is fine, mine was at about 70* and no problems so I"m okay with that. If I were you I wouldn't overclock it or anything as that might push it a little too far but you should be okay, even with passive cooling like you there (no fans).
 
after gaming i get about 50 degrees, does heatpipes cool better than fans on graphics card or is it just for less noise?
 
heat pipes dont cool as well i dont think, they are good because they make no oise as they are passive coolers but i tink Heat sinks with fans are better, but heat pipes with fans blowing over fins is the best air cooling...(Arctic Freezer eh willhub!)
 
Heatpipe cooling can be effective if you have proper airflow through the case. I've got a CoolerMaster CoolViva on my GF4 Ti4600 and it cools very well. Of course, I've got a solid airflow setup in that case, and have the included fan installed, but I could pop that sucker off without ill effect and OC it. I could probably do that with other heatpipe coolers as well simply because of the good airflow.

Besides having fans going in the same direction, make sure your cables are as out of the way as possible. Cable management is critical for good airflow, especially if you have a lot of wires running everywhere. It'll take some time to do it right, but it's well worth it.
 
think i will try and get some some fans to reduce the heat, its a little uncomfortable knowing its quite hot so i will try my best to give it some cooling!
