Hi, now I was not too sure which forum room to put this question, as it includes Hardware ,Win xp and linux. I gave Linux Ubuntu a try on my slave drive and did not like it too much as I was having right trouble even getting my mail to work. So, I decided to put XP back on it. How do I format this slave to put a windows system on it instead of Linux. Your thoughts would be apreciatted, thank you.
If you want to completely format the drive then the XP CD should be able to format and partition it for it's install.
Hi Matt555, I booted up to the winxp cd and it was only prepared to install it on the C:\ drive, as that as the only drive in the box. I thought, if I clicked install it would go straight onto it and Not give me the chance to put it on the slave as the slave was not mentioned. Does that make sense. my Slave is Not a partition of the Primary, but a compltly seperate HD.
I don't think the windows software detects the linux partition at all. So if you use the winxp cd as matt suggests, that HD space will be as if it's nonexistent. And it sounds like that's exactly what you describe. But I don't know how to help you out, sorry.
I thought the XP install did see the drives linux used, i'm sure ive deleted them and then reformatted the whole drive on a laptop that had linux on once...
Windows 98 se boot disk will work, first you have to fdisk/mbr, then reboot with the boot disk and fdisk again, then delete all linux partitions. then create a new partition and then format..
