Grafix card trouble....

Hello ppl,

I just got a "passed down"comp, a P3 1Ghz w/ 256 MB RAM....however the system came equipped with a video card that is best discribed as no card at all (It's from IBM and it's onboard with 2MB of video memory). So i dug up a Geforce 2 MX 400, 64MB PCI I had lying around, and tried to make it work on the "new"comp....well turns out that when I insert the card into one of the PCI slots and turn on the comp, I get absolutely nothing, just a black screen....I don't even see the POST screen that usually shows up before the OS loads:mad: .

I already tried setting the BIOS to video>>PCI, but no luck.

Also, I don't really know wich mobo I have, since SiSoft Sandra 2003 wouldan't tell me, but I saw that the chipset is a "Intel Corporation 82815/EP/P Solano Host-Hub"...and that the "Intel Corporation D815EEA" mobo uses this chipset.

Anyway, here is some info I got out of SiSoft Sandra 2003:

Any help would be VERY mutch appreciated;)

I know the i815 chipset will automatically disable the on-board video if an AGP card is inserted. I'm not sure about a PCI card, though. I'd check to make sure the card is properly seated as they can be picky if they're even the slightest bit off.

Yeah, i checked and the card is very well seated:( ...could the card be simply incompatible with the mobo for some reason??

have you tried the card in a different computer to see if it works or not!?

Yeah, I tried the card on another comp, and it kinda worked....U see, I could use the card normally, but the only problem was that the card could not acces it's 64MB, onlt measly 2MB, so any 3D appz I ran crashed......well, I guess the card must be broken...oh well, it's kinda old anyway, might as well get a new one. TKS:D
