graphic card crashing

Well, i recently bought a geforce 6600 gt for my intel pentium 4 2.6 mhz.
When i tried playing some "old" games or games that dont take much like warcraft 3 or counterstrike the geforce did its work and worked very good but when i tried playing some new games like prince of persia or guild wars or whatever after sevral minutes of playing to my dissapointment the screen shut down and i couldnt reopen it but the computer kept on running. The only way i could reopen it was shuting down the computer and replug the graphic card cable.
on some cases even the computer does a restart.

I really dont know what to do and i really need help.
Could it be maybe that the graphic card is getting too hot or smtg?
I have win xp pro.

Thx in advance,
Fender

Thats a hell of a card and demands a lot of power.

What PSU do you have? I'll wager your PSU isn't enough to provide enough juice for that card. That is what is restarting your PC. I almost guarantee it.

Exactly random restarts of shutting down under heavy load is to do with:

1. PSU not cutting it

2. Overheating when crashing under load.

Yeah, you may want to look for a new power supply around 500wts or so just for some future insurance, your card doesn't need that much but you'll upgrade eventually I imagine. Try newegg, the prices are quite reasonable.

Thx for ur replies!
I have no idea what is my PSU, how can i check it?
and i aint sure its becz there isnt eough power cuz it doesnt always restart the computer keeps on running only the screen went off.
