Are there PC graphics cards AGP or PCI especially for still photos & not only fast games?
All good graphics cards you read about today concentrate on speed for games & put quality of colours second if at all. We don't play games. Are there cards which concentrate on quality of still photos above game speeds? Is such a card needed? We have an ATI Radeon 9600 128mb DDR. Is that good enough for high quality photos?

Photo editing doesn't require much out of the video card other than very minimal requirements. Even using on-board is more than enough for photo editing. Why? Photo editing relies on the CPU. Image quality in viewing is pretty much equal. If you want to look at 2D, then a Matrox G450 or G550 (if you can find one still) would be good, but really unnecessary. What you have now is more power than needed for photo editing, and unless you decide to play games on this box, there's no good reason to upgrade what you have.

If you're running less than 512MB of RAM, that would be something to look into which could help performance.
