It could be a feature of your mobo, mine does it too. To save time it skips the POST (Power On Self Test), and just loads the data from the first test.

I know this sounds stupid, but make sure your power button (the one you press to turn the computer on) is working properly. When you press the power button whilst in XP, it will do something like Shutdown, hibernate or standby. It could be that the power button is not working and is telling the computer you are pressing it all the time, and therefore xp goes into standby.

to disable onboard grfx (you may need to connect your monitor to onboard grfx) enter BIOS and select an option that says something like ¨Integrated Peripherals¨, in there will be an option to enabl / disable onboard grfx, disable, save to CMOS and exit

If I wanted to disable my onboard graphics, I would have to enter BIOS & go to 'Advanced Setup' (I think) - select 'PCI/Plug & Play Setup' and then by using the Page Up & Down keys, select 'Disable' - save & exit.

It might be worth exploring to see if your BIOS configuration interface is similar to mine.

you may need to connect your monitor to the onboard grfx to be able to disable it,

    1. connect your monitor to onboard grfx
    2. enter BIOS and disable onboard graphics
    3. now plug in your new grfx card
    4. boot & install drivers
