    Hi All,

I am a complete newbie and have an issue with my Laptops hard drive. I have realised that it is in fact split into 2 Hard drives and i have reached the limit of the C Drive. There is a D Drive but i dont know how to use both at the same time for things like iTunes. can anyone help??

    Your HD is partitioned.

The D: drive is for data storage and the C: drive is used for the operating system and programs. What you should do is save data such as downloads or documents into the D: drive. It is as easy as going to the toilet. Right click on the file you want to move, click on Copy. Open your D: drive. Right click somewhere in the empty space and create a new folder. Name it what you like. Open the new folder, right click anywhere in the empty space and click on Paste. If the copy was successful, delete the original. You could also use Move but then if you lost the file you lost the original. Then it can take time to find it again... :eek:hah:

Word of advice: If you are not carefull you might move essential files which the system needs. Never move a file which you are not entierly sure what it is. Office documents and multimedia are OK to move but anything else must be treated with caution.

I never used iTunes but I am pretty sure you can specify where you want to keep your music, create a new folder in the D: drive and tell iTunes you want your music kept there. Otherwise, keep copying or moving excess files to the D: drive.

    Maintaining your partitions:

The more you use your computer the more programs you accumulate.
You might find that after a while your C: drive will become too full.
You can resize the partitioned with tools such as Partition Magic.
Really easy but costs money. Or you can do this via comand line which is not for the faint hearted and needs to be learned thoroughly before attempting.

See if you can borrow a copy from a freind. Once you have made the changes, you can uninstall and be done with. However, if you are into making frequent changes to your partitions, Partition Magic is one hell of a tool to have. Might be worth the cost.

    Hope this helps.
