Hello guys When i leave my computer alone for a few seconds it starts either defraging or thrashing the hard disk, i have tried defraging each partition, the disk is 160 GB i hav devided it into 20, 70 and 70. After defraging the disks it still does the thrashing or defraging after i leave it for a few secs. I have been using an norton ghost image i made for 3 years now and i havent used it to re instantiate my OS for about 5 months so my OS partion is fully packed with only 2.3 GB free. It used to start auto defraging in the background or when i left it alone after i re imaged the partion and it would stop after an hour then id be ok. but now it dosent stop its been doing ti for ages even thogh i let it do it for hours every day. and i have defraged every partition. Any sugestions on how i can stop it from thrashing or defraging when i leave it alone its noisy and may damage the disk. Thanks
i turned off my screen saver, put on task manager aranged it by CPU usage, and waited for it, it was Microsoft Indexing Service, i turmned it off and its ok now, this was coz i was running the server and back when i installed it i thogh i may need it but i dont because its a dev server, the machines contents have grown so the service is trying to cope but it never stops indexing so i turned it off and this has broght peace to my life thanks everyone. The process is called cisv.exe you go to add remove programs window components and remove Microsoft Indexing Service, its used for making searches faster so it just indexes all files on your computer and even the contents of every file so thats wy it thrashes.
