HD Unknown - 0 Kb

Dear Forum Users,

I have a 500GB Hitachi HD that is not recognized by any OS I have, my last hope is Linux, I made 3 Live CD with versions of Backtrack 5, Ubuntu and Big Linux.

When I insert the HD and use GParted in all distributions it finds no hard drive connected.

If I go into the hardware settings I see my HD but it appears as if the capacity was 0 Kb but it has 500 Gb.

I'm trying trought gparted (doesn't list the drive) and fdisk (doesn't list the drive), in Windows I had tried replace the MBR info (error), EASEUS Partition Manager is the unique program that can list the drive, but show the error I/O.

When I plug in Sagemcom Device and format, then i put it back in my desktop just show me the samething.

If I flash a new firmware I can restore this HD? And if I make a ZeroFill?

Please help me out.

How old is this drive ? Ever thought that the drive could be fried.... If you have a windows desktop box, then just piggy back that drive as Slave to retrieve info on it..

This drive have 1 year old, I took ti from a Sagemcom decoder, I think it have a custom partition.

I'm trying to use it in my PC, all the partition program, give me I/O error, but if I plug it back to the custom device it works fine... I guess if I flash the firmware again I can succeed restore the partition, what do you think?
 
Check out Hard drive Regenerator, Some how you need to format the drive.. The drive needs to be scanned for errors. Also check out SpinRite by Gibson Research..

I took the manufacture software and I make all the tests,and the result is OK. I tried a lot of format softwares when the software recognize the drive and I click in create a partition I receive the error I/O.
 
Have you looked up that drive to see if it is capatable for a PC ? Look up the serial number , Make /Model to see if it will work with a PC.. Make sure it is not for an APPLE computer..I would get another one...
 
Just trying, and don't work, I put the jumper in slave or master and doesn't work anything...

You use a host computer/desktop and set the second hard drive to cable select, then start up the computer with the host OS, then go to that drive and see if you are able to see it, OR to scandisk for errors and fix the drive.. If the drive shows up, Then you might have a chance, If it doesn't, then you will need another hard drive..

So it looks like it is able to find the drive, Have you Fdisk the boot manager ? It is probably not working because of the boot manager...try fdisk /mbr...
You need a to get a copy of Hiren's Boot disk... Then try to wipe the boot manager...
