Okay this involves cooling and case modding but the main point of it is about cooling so i put it here, I have a HDD cooler (cools HDD down by about 12*C) which uses 2x50m fans running off a molex connector, now they make noise, and since i got this new PSU i don't like noise, so I thought i might change them to run off the 5V rail instead of the 12V rail (through a 4 pin molex, they only use 2 pins though). This shouldn't be hard to do but i was thinking of putting in some toggle switches on the front of my case to turn lights off and having a switch or resistor let me change the voltage supplied to the fans. I was thinking of have a switch that would let me either turn the fans off, have them at 7 (or 5 volts) or have them at 12V...would this be hard to do? (i feel really stupid asking this question as i did electronics for 2 years, however our teacher was a moron and i learned pretty much nothing...) or should i use a potentiometer (variable resistor) If so could someone give me details, doing it with a resistor for the fans would be good, however it would be showing so one that looks nice or has a cover to cover the ugly plastic rod used to alter it is a must. Any help is greatly appreciated. PS I heard somewhere that having a switch to turn off something like a cathode tube/LED's can cause a shutdown of the computer...is this right?!
