Hello! Problem 1

Hello. Im a small time gamer/ 3d animator currently trying to upgrade my computer.

Recently i have been having trouble when I install new applications. When I install something, my computer restarts and then when booting back up, it gets to windows then resets itself. When it resets itself i hear a small click coming from either my hard drives or my power supply. I have no problems with overheating and i am not overclocking my CPU. Here are my current specs:

CPU: AMD athlon 1800+
RAM: 1256Mb DDR333
Graphics: 128Mb ATI Radeon 9700 Pro running dual monitors
Hard Drives: Seagate 40Gb Primary
Maxtor 40Gb Slave
Western Digital 250Gb External Lighted running on USB 2.0
PSU: 250W ATX
O/S: Win XP Pro
CD/DVD drives: 1x DVD ROM 1x DVD/RW

I am also running a 3 port PCI firewire card from the PSU as well as 5 case fans and 2 USB 2.0 4 port hubs powered from the USB ports. The Radeon 9700 pro is also powered from the PSU.

I suspect I either have a dodgy hard drive or an over driven PSU

Can someone help?
 
I would get a 420watt power supply from thermaltake because when cheap generic brand power supplies go down they can take out your other components. The thermaltake is around 40-50 dollars at www.newegg.com and it will ensure clean, stable power if you do any other upgrades.

maxtor is not known for dependable hard drives...
 
I'm with ninja on this one, it would appear that your system could be chocking a little because the generic (?) 250wt psu isn't giving off enough juice. After all you do have a lot of drives and a beefy v-card.
 
Cheers dudes. thats what i shall do. im also in need of a bigger root drive and graphics cards and i guess the new PSU should cope with those with ease.

Hey Hey! Jus to say, bought a Thermaltake Silent Butterfly Xeser Edition PSU 480W. Should be here in a couple of days.
