Compaq presario S4020WM Windows XP Home Processor unknown whatever it came with AMD 128 MB ram 1 Gig max pretty standerd Only a few minor upgrades Video card 128 mb Nvidia GeForce mx 4000 (not in right now I have to send it in and get a return) Needs some major upgrades Don't have a lot of money need advice and help on this I will try to give more info if needed and if you know of any financail assistance I would appreciate it
Why do you need the upgrades? For new programs or summit? RAM would make a huge difference. Your sitting on the recommended amount for xp home. Whack in as much as you can. You have amd 2ghz (atlonXP 2400). It needs ddr266 (pc2100) It holds 1gb and has two banks so each must be able to hold 512mb. Your 128mb must be installed in one bank so Id get another 512mb chip. A good clear out of windows or even a format will get you running quicker. The more organised windows is the better I reckon. Ive just quickly done a search on ebay. 256mb of laptop ddr266 is £11.50 so 512mb cant be loads.
Also it depends on budget, what's the maximum you're willing to spend and would you be willing to buy / build a completely new rig if that's what's required?
Where does the Upgarde of a fan come into play here? I agree your ram is too low,In order to run windows XP correctly now days you need allot of ram 512 mb and up. Now Also most newer computers built now days don't even come with a fan,, They just try and use the power supply fan,Which is noway enough to do anything..I always stick in an additional on the back/side if there is a space.. You can never get enough cooling in a case.
I think they mean like a computer fan as in a supporter / fan of computers (in the same way you can be a football fan) - that's what I'm guessing anyway...
I wouldn't mind building my own computer but that would cost at least 200-300 and I'm trying to stay under 200. I have a liquid cooled system by the way I man fan as in Fanatic. Anyways I would like to just build my own but just the mother board can range for 100-340 for ones that aren't that great. The system I have is fine and if you look at it my way I have three ram spots two normal ram and a PCI-E. Anyways I'm pretty poor and only 17 so These are going to have to be low budget upgrades and it's not a labtop it's a desktop
Your computer seems to be running at 2.0ghz with 128 ram, It is a nice computer, BUT all you need is more ram... I see that you can boost it up to 1 Gig of ram... I have a Compaq prosario 6000,and it has all most the same specks as yours. I would install either another 128 chip,But more better would be a 512 chip... This would make your computer allot more happier and faster.
