Hey, im looking to upgrade my computer. If you want you can help me design one... Ill be using a bunch of parts from my current computer so all you need to budget in are: Motherboard CPU RAM Graphics card I currently have a dvd drive, hdd, 500watt power supply, and case. I haven't looked at the market in a few years so i dont know what is good for price vs performance. Lets see who can put together the best computer using the budget iv supplied. Good luck and thanks.
Only for 3D video games. (warhammer online in particular) Current idea i have in mind is... Motherboard: Asus P5K/EPU Cpu: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 RAM: 2048MB Twin2x DDR2 C4 6400 Graphics card: Radeon HD 4850 If anyone can think of something better or make any iterations that would be great, thanks.
Thats a good setup just what operating system are you going to put?? Also why dont you add an extra 2GB of memory it's really cheap these days with DDR3 being out
Alright, 4 gb or ram it is... Ill be using windows vista ultimate. Just curious, how much of a performance gain is there between DDR1, 2, and 3?
I agree with Pimp; great build man. Especially that graphics card. 4gb of ram would be best especially if your going to use Vista. To answer your RAM question shortly - DDR3 may perform at higher frequencies (good) but with higher latencies (bad). A higher latency means, if i may use bad english, a slower performing RAM. DDR2 have slightly lower frequencies then DDR3 but have lower latencies. Read this short discussion to help you: DDR2 vs. DDR3 If i were you i think id stick with DDR2, hoping that the newer motherboards for the core i7's will support them
Thanks for agreeing with me, like i said before me and you think a like Good answer to the dudes question but i really wouldn't say that DDR2 has slightly lower frequency because the highest frequency on DDR2 without overclocking is 1066Mhz now the highest DDR3 frequency is 2000Mhz so it's nearly doubled but i would say that lower DDR3 has a slight increase over DDR2 frequency in that case you are right, but anyways the high 2000MHz of DDR3 is hindered by bad latencies like 9-9-9-24 which is crazy  Also one other point is that DDR3 is way way to expensive for what you get out of it so i personally am still sticking with DDR2 untill i am forced to go to DDR3 lol and we are already seeing this happen with the new X58 mobo only taken DDR3 memory.
