Is it possible to purchase an off the shelf PC that has two PC's that operate on a hot/standby configuration that provide redundancy, so that if one PC falls down the other takes over. I would need each PC to be independent from each other, therefore separate boards, chips, PSU's etc. I would envisage them having a couple of controller boards that would monitor the health of the other PC.

Anyone seen anything like this for sale?

never heard of it, what your best off doin is having one server tower, having a raid configuration raid 1, raid 5 or raid 10 so you will not have to worry about losing data. and for psu invest in a redundant psu, also a ups.
