Hey, this is the first time I've *tried* to put together a computer. I'm pretty sure I have everything in the right place, so what's wrong? It powers on, the CPU fan is working, the videocard's fan is working (good signs?), and the CD drives open and close, but nothing shows shows up on screen. Is anything broken? How can I find out? System specs are below, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    250GB SATA Seagate HDD
    MSI K9N SLI PLATINUM N570SLI AM2 Mobo
    G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit System Memory
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Orleans AM2
eVGA Geforce 7900GT CO 256MB Videocard
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Case
ASPIRE ATX-AS520W BLACK ATX 520W Power Supply

well the computer actually turning on is a good sign. Your mobo seems to have power if the cpu fan is working. Your video card may not be seated right on the motherboard. I would try taking it out and putting it back in to make sure its in there pretty snug.

Is the videocards fan powered by the video card, or does its power cable run to the mobo?

i dont have any experience with Sli mobos, so thats the only advice i can really give. I do hope that helps some though.

It's seated correctly, I just made sure. Uhmm, I'm not sure about the fan. The videocard does connect directly to the PSU though.

Make sure all your power connectors to the motherboard and video card are plugged in. Reseat your video card.

Well ive been looking at the specs for your hardware and have come up with this:
your ps is at 520watts and the video card's Minimum is 500 watts on a sli type system. Im not sure but with that kind of a load, its quite possible that the ps is having trouble handling the load your putting on it.
To confirm or disprove this you might try to unplug the power cords from everything but the motherboard and the graphics card. This will essentially not give power to the optical drives and hard drives. You should still get to a BIOS screen if it does boot up. If so then viola problem found.

    heres what i was referencing
MSI K9N Platinum ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail at Newegg.com

eVGA Geforce 7900GT CO 256-P2-N563-AX Video Card - Retail at Newegg.com

    Good luck!

The power reqs for SLI only apply if I have 2 GPUs running. :/

I had the same problem happen to me on a new build and it was the PSU. I havent heard of Aspire as a PSU manufacturer (unless they're well known in the USA) and I suspect thats where your problem is.

Try booting the PC with the Optical drive(s) unplugged, any unecessary case fans or lights disconnected as well. You're trying to get as much juice to the rest of the system as possible.

This might be a silly question but are all the power connectors on the mobo in the right place? Newer mobos and PSU's have 24 pin connectors wheras the older ones have 20 pins (I think). Its possible that the PSU has a 20 pin connector AND a 4 pin connector that are not necessarily clipped together (if you see what I mean). On my ASrock motherboard the two power connectors are actually situated in different parts of the motherboard (20pin and 4 pin). They both need to be connected, this stumped me for a while.

you should have the new molex connection connected to your 7900GT (pci e connection should be in the description of your psu) may seem like a stupid question, but is your monitor connected properly?
