Well shes not happy and when momma aint happy no ones happy What happened was I was going to take one of her mem cards out because years ago I had got her a second one and I found out it was not the same speed as the first one and so I thought if I left the larger one in it might speed it up. Well while I was in there I also pulled her cpu out because I had a pentium 3 chip I was going to see if it would work in her socket. Hers has a Celeron thats 6 years old and very slow, any way it was not the same so I put her old cpu back in but the heat sink came off I put a little heat grease on the back of it and put it back together. When I started it back up first it wouldn't post I restarted it a couple of time and got it going but It kept saying it didn't have enough mem. to do any thing. So I put both sticks of mem. back and it started acting all retarted first it said there was a file with a name that was to long and saying files were missing and the screen would just go black. So next She has GO Back on it, its a program that will reverse the entire hard drive to a time in the past. I reversed it to a date before I messed with it and it set it back like it should:x: but now I keep getting BSDs saying that it can't write any thing to drive C:swear: I tried setting Bios setting to default tried taking the battery out for an hour, no good. Any one have ant Ideas Oh by the way when I was in there I unhooked the hard drive and rehooked it back up the same way it was. Im going to Sam's Club this week to buy her a new one that I have been told I will not touch but I would like to give the old one to my son if its not going to cost much to fix it. Thanks for any help.
Well, it is possible that virtual memory got disabled in Windows, which will definately screw up a computer. Also, you may have bent some pins on the CPU, they are very delicate. I assume it is also possible that you tried to put in the CPU without pulling out the Zero Insertion Force lever on the socket, which will definately screw up the CPU, but in that event you usually get smoke, so... You could check all those things.
So yours working and your wife's not working...........Was there any important data?.....If yes then attach that HD with your compter and Copy the data first~! Check your Memory sticks are in slot1 and 2 not in the 2nd and 3rd slot as somebody told me that it also affects some computers.
Thanks guys We were lucky we are on a home network so from my PC I went into hers and backed up stuff she wanted to keep. Then I formated her hard drive and reinstalled windows and now it seems to be working fine. I thought it was a hardware issue but I gess it was just some thing in windows. The stuff I'v backed up on mine I scaned with Norton no viruses found so I'm not sure what caused it. But thanks alot for the help:good:
