Do you have any specific 17"s that stand out

Yeah, Hitachi and Samsung are the best at the moment.
Depending on how much you want to spend i'd grab a Samsung 930BF as they are coming down in price lately but i think it's a little too expensive. Alternateively, CMV have some good cheap monitors with the 8ms line being acceptable.

The LG L1720B is good, roughly 2100 rand.
Alternatively, the Gigabyte GD-1703BP is also good, at 8ms response time and sits at around 2100 rand aswell.

Thanks Pelvis_3. can any one tell me why for example the more expensive acer 2 series 17" has a slower response time (16ms) than its cheeper 1 series 17"(8ms).
Are the quoted response trimes always comparing apples to apples in terms of their manifacturers using the same test etc.
Also is my amd 2600+ gf fx5700le and 512 ram system gonna run war3 cs and fable on the high resolutions

Monitors I recommend for your price range:

    • Hyundai ImageQuest B70A Siver & Black 17" 8ms LCD Monitor
    • HYUNDAI B90A Silver-Black 19" 8ms LCD Monitor
    • HYUNDAI L90D+ Silver 19" 8ms LCD Monitor

All of these monitors are excellent quality and between $300-US ~ $320-US.

    All the best,
    -AT

They will run @ 1280 x 1024 on low settings okay I think, you won't be able to have details and settings turned up on high though, you may be able to run on medium settings but I'm not too sure on that one.

I would go with a Samsung as already mentioned. I've got an old Samsung CRT monitor which is at least 10 years old, and it's never let me down.....touch wood :)
