Ok ive just lost a file, well the file is there but not accessible, ill explain, please read.
ok i use a small software package to create computer games, my last game i have been working on for the last month, its taken me ages to create where im up to and something happened about 10.30 last nite.
I was just finishing something off and went to execute my program to test it, during executing the bar stuck and went back to my game creation program, i then thought ok something not right ill save it just incase, while saving again the saving bar reached the end and then it stuck for about 3minutes, anyways i get this message saying "couldnt save file" and then program exits, i went into my computer and the file says it contains 0 bytes, also the backup file says 0 bytes.
Now i thought ohh its just lost in memory or something i know ill leave my laptop off overnight and try it again in the morning, i load the laptop up and again the file says 0 bytes and when i go to open it says "could not open, file is corrupt".
since i never delete old file just overwrite the old 1 searching for recently deleted files was useless as i only ever overwrite files.
i was shocked that the backup had gone also.
Ok thats the story and this is what i need:
1. is they any way i can get my file back? at the minute it says 0kb which means its gone forever, but can i somehow repair it? anybody know of programs.
2. somebody mentioned chkdsk /f and it does something to the clusters but im unsure how this works.
3. i tried a system restore but everytime i try and restore it says restore was incomplete, i dont get why it wont restore my system either.
any ideas of how i can get the file back? im willing to try anything really.
p.s i downloaded undeletefile 2.0 and nothing, all it found were example files i had deleted as i didnt need these anymore.
thanks, mark
