:x: My PC has been abused by me for several years and now it is starting to show . I was panning on building a new one for the first time but i spent the $$ on something else . Anyway down to business . My major problem is my Add /Remove programs window will not work , win media player will not work because of an internal app error and a couple other small things. My pc is a Dell precision 420 workstation , 3 yrs old , pentium 3 800 mhz processor , matrox g400 vid card , no very much RAM ,Win2000 OS , and in need of some TLC . I used one of the repair programs listed on the ads above and i have about 418 errors . I was going to format it but i dont have/cant find the software cd and i was told i dont have enough RAM for XP . Sorry for the novel length post ! :( any help is appreciated ! -A

Well XP will run (it doesn't *need* 512Mb, but its advisable).
If an upgrade is possible, then I suggest you consider it at some point.
To fix the errors, you may want to try this:

I've used it before, and helps with most errors without messing anything else up.
To get Add/Remove to work, try this:

and that will remove any program, regardless if you had an error message previously.
Then defrag your hard drive, run scan disk, clear up some space, uninstall everything you dont use, empty recyle bin, check for adware/spyware, and that should help some what.

There is no escape
From my experience the programs you've tried are best considered a preventative action, i.e. they're most useful when the computer is in relatively good condition. Once a computer goes past a certain point however then you're usually looking at a complete re-install. If you don't want to/are unable to re-install Windows itself then you could try to uninstall the Media Player and then run the registry cleaner, defragger, virus scanner, etc. Hopefully, if you're keep a rabbits foot in your pocket and hang a horshoe over the monitor, Media Player will re-install cleanly. Try that and keep me updated.
