hi all aint been on in a awhile.. ive now completely built my system: Amd "Barton" 333 2500+ Thermalright SLK-900A Asus A7N8X Deluxe nForce2 Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x512) ATI radeon 9600XT 256mb sapphire 16x NEC Dvd 120gb Serial ATA 7200rpm 8mb Seagate Barracuda Antec Plus 1080AMG Metallic Gray File Server Case - 430W + 5 internal fans Its a brilliant system, and i'm glad i asked alot of questions on these forums im currently downloading 3dmark on my slow connection to test my system out other than saying thanks.. i have a problem.. i've cleaned up my old system: Duron 1.3ghz / 640mb Sd 133 / ATI Radeon 8500 64mb 16x DVD / 12x CD-RW SoundBlaster Value Live! put everything in a new beanie transparent case added some extra leds and illuminuse fans and cables and given it to my younger brother as his 1st pc for xmas. basically.. i dont have time 2 play alot of games, and when i do i play CS i've started teaching my brother how to play CS, as ive been playing it for almost 4 years, but with my old duron the grphx r really slow... on my brothers pc: i run at: 800x600 ingame with 16bit colour detail / opengl with 3.9 drivers. i constantly get around 30fps. and on occasion if i just stop and look at a sky or a wall i will get 50 - 99fps. but as soon as i start moving it goes no higher than 30fps. now it doesnt really bother me, as my new card gives me 100fps constant ingame. but i believe that the radeon 8500 64mb should be able to get atleast 50fps constant. when i brought it i was told that i'd easily get 50fps with it. 40 minimum. ive turned everything to performance, vsync is off. Desktop is: 1024x768 @ 32bit @ 84.9hz Running: WinXP Pro is it the rest of the durons system that is laggin me?
While it is a value chip, the Duron is by no means a slouch. Duron's 1.0-1.3GHz based on the Morgan core are pretty much equivalent to an Athlon (Thunderbird core) 1.0-1.3GHz. You should be able to do at least 1024x768 @ 32-bit color. The PC133 being SDR SDRAM probably affects it some, but not that much. Did you install your motherboard drivers on that system, particularly anything relating to the AGP slot? If you know what drivers you were using before, snag those and install 'em. Why am I saying that? Oh, I could play UT at 1024x768 with a Duron 800MHz and a GeForce 2 MX, as well as Half-Life fine. Speaking of which, you also might want to make sure weather it's just CS or all giving you trouble. Also just run a in single-player mode, off-line, as LAN can affect the FPS counter.
