    Hi everyone :)

Ive got a serious problem im hoping someone here can help me out with.

My Compaq EVO desktop has recently been cutting out after about 5 seconds of powering up. I think the problem is with the power supply so today I removed it and bought another PS. The original PS was 250w, the new one, is a 400w ATX power switching PS.

The problem is, I've just connected it up to the PC and when i switched the power on, there was not a blip of power!

Im quite sure everything is connected OK to the motherboard etc and the power settings default to 230v rather than the US equivalent so there shouldnt be any problems.

CaHas anyone got any suggestions? I really need to get this PC back in business.

For info, the PS I removed can be found here:

    hp Compaq 243890-001

    Any ideas appreciated :(

Actually, when there's not enough power, the fans may spin up, but the system won't be able to get far enough along to attempt to boot or POST.

I'd check the CPU cooling to ensure the fan, if there is one, is running and that the unit is securely fastened in place. Usually, when the system powers off after a few seconds of being powered on, it's an indicator of the CPU not being properly cooled.

maybe the motherboard isn't getting any power at all. Most mobos have power indication LEDs placed on them to indicate wether power is present on motherboard. alternatively, put a working LAN cable into you NIC and see if any indicator LEDs of the NIC go up (indicating activity as well as the fact that power is getting through).

Yeah, i would say its a mobo issue, or like edijs said, its not getting power.
