Help to install XP on HP netbook

Hi all.

I'm using an USB stick but XP installation doesn't see the SATA drive, and I tried to integrate the driver using nLite but didn't worked. If there's an easier way to do that I'd like that too. I can access the target partition from a Debian installed on another partition if that helps.

Specs:
HP Mini 110-3110BR
Intel Atom N455 (1,66 GHz)
160 GB (5400 RPM) HD
1 GB DDR2 SDRAM (1 Dimm)
3 USB ports
1 SD/MMC port
No CD/DVD drive
No floppy drive
 
Method 2 and 3 have been tried before and method 1 doesn't work: "ASSERTION FAILED! AssertMessageID: 2051/JT9RU‏".

The real problem is NOT booting the installation process, the problem is making the installation process work with my SATA drives, and I don't have that option in BIOS to natively support SATA to deactivate.
 
If this hard drive is a dual boot, then it is never going to work.. Are you trying to reinstall XP to partition One ? Or is that Debian ?? In order for this to Work Right, You Must have XP on Partition One the Linux on Partition two.. Does you laptop support booting from USB ? You will need a copy of XP with Sata drivers on it..Your Problem is going to be with your BOOT MANAGER....
 
Yes it's XP on 1 and Debian on 2.
Yes, it supports USB boot (read post 1).
Again in post 1, already made a nLited XP CD with SATA drivers in it and saw no change. Perhaps I got the wrong drivers. The SATA controller is this: Intel Corporation N10/ICH7 Family SATA AHCI Controller
And I guess that GRUB can handle the boot well. I can make a very quick SliTaz Live installation on my USB stick to install GRUB.
 
Your problem is going to be, when you install XP on partition one, it is going to want to have XP boot manager and it will mess up your linux..
In order to get this too work right, you will have to reformat both drives and make two NEW partitions, and starting all over again.
Do you use Linux ? Sata drivers can be a real pain, But If you look real hard, you can find versions of XP with built in sata drivers ... Your post does not say that your Bio's supports booting from USB ?

The installation can't see the drives. How do I know that? Because I went through the installation. The installation from the USB stick.

Anyway as said 2 posts before I can use SliTaz Live from the USB stick to reinstall GRUB and get all the OSes to show up. Althoughthe idea of starting all over might actually be helpful. Too bad I'll have to reinstall Debian, which takes ~2 hours, but it wasn't working the way I wanted either.

I'll try it, and in case it doesn't work I'll look for a XP with built in SATA drivers.
 
Yea! Most XP setup disks do not have sata drivers on them.. If you want to give me your email address, I will send you a link for XP with sata drivers ...
 
YES! That did it! Thanks so much man, it was driving me crazy. Went as easily as it could, although I'm a little disappointed for it didn't connected ethernet automatically, unlike my desktop on the same connection. But that will be way easier to fix (I hope).
