Help upgrading video card

I've been out of the loop for a while now. My subscriptions to the PC magazines where I used to get all my information have stopped because I just don't have the time to do all the reading anymore. Anyway, I have a NVIDIA 6800 GTO graphics card but it's just too slow for the games I sometimes play. Right now I'm in the process of playing Neverwinter Nights 2, Gothic 3, and Medieval II, but the games lag at high graphics settings... especially Gothic 3. I want to be able to turn the graphics up to maximum without experiencing any lag or crashing. I have about $300 to spend... please make as many suggestions as you can, including what you'd personally choose. Just for the record, my current system has 3.6Ghz processor and 2Gigz of memory (2x1GIG memory sticks), so I doubt the problem in the games is lack of memory of processing speed. I plan to buy 2 more gigs of memory later but for now I'm only concerned about the graphics card.

Please note that Gothic 3 only supports the following cards:

I'd like to add a new question as well... which video card is better? The eVGA GeForce 7950GT 512-P2-N637-AR KO Superclocked or the BFG Tech GeForce 7950GT BFGR7950512GTOCE Video Card? What does KO mean and what's the difference between these two video cards?
 
First things first as Big B said you need to know what interface your mobo has , you don,t wanna go and buy the wrong card !! Look in your display settings , Advanced , Apadtor and it should say either AGP or PCIe !! The card you linked is a PCIe and not a bad piece of kit with clock speed of 600mhz and the BFG one (if its the same as i found) has a clock speed off approx 560 so therefore theareticly the evag one should be better !!! Though this is never one hundred percent gauranted way of assessing a card !! Look at Pelvis 3's sticky at the top of the video cards sub forum and view Toms Hardware Guide for a breakdown on Graph card performance to get a better idea !!!

But as Big B said find out what you need first !!!

I did what you said and went to adapter details and it says,

Chip Type: GeForce 6800 Series GPU
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Memory Size: 256MB
Adapter String: GeForce 6800 Series GPU
Bios Information: Version 5.40.02.17.15

If I click on the Properties button on this tab it says,

Device type: Display adapters
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Location: PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0

Does any of this information answer the question? I'm still not certain.... but I'd assume the location PCI bus might indicate that it's a PCI-express type?? But I don't know.
 
If you want to find out information about your PC, use PC Wizard to find out what ports, interfaces etc your PC has, it'll give you info on practically anything.
 
Are there any 8 series video cards within my price range? I can afford around $300.00... $400.00 is too much.
 
all the 8 series cards are about £350 - £500, so between about $500-$700 maybe?
