Does WinXP have some kind of native dvd burning capabilities? My dad brought me an external dvd burner from work, but no software with it. How do I make it burn data for me? All i want is to basically copy/paste some folders (containing video files) to make a data dvd.

Does Xp find the drive when connected ? You might need a firmware to connect it first, then just try to find some burning software. There are all kinds out there, if you just do a little looking.
