    Hello everyone, first post!

    I'm planning on building a gaming pc in the near future, and i've put quite a lot of time researching what parts I want. I decided to go with the Intel i7 build in hopes of 'future proofing' my system (I hope this is a good move?) Here's a list of what I think I want:

    Case: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

    Power Supply: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Retail

    Motherboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

    Processor: Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920 - Retail

    Memory: CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

    Graphics Card: EVGA 01G-P3-1282-AR GeForce GTX 280 SuperClocked Edition 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

    Disc Drive: LITE-ON Black 6X Blu-Ray DVD ROM & 16X DVD±R DVD Burner SATA Model iHES106-29 - OEM

    OR

    SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model SH-S223Q - OEM

    Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

    Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit English 1pk DSP OEI DVD for System Builders - OEM

    Monitor: SAMSUNG ToC T240HD Rose-Black 24" 5ms HDMI Widescreen HDTV Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 10000:1 Built in DTV Tuner & Dolby Digital Surround Speakers - Retail

    All in all, this build would end up costing me around $2,200 if I went with the blu-ray player, and $100 less if I just go with the DVD player. Any thoughts or advice about this would be greatly appreciated. Some things I'd particularly like to hear advice on are the switch to Vista (good or bad?), noise (will this be too loud, and if so, is there anything cost effective I can do about it?), ANY place at all that I could save money, and particularly, the monitor. I'm going with the full HD monitor because in addition to serving as my computer monitor, I'd like to hook my xbox 360 and/or wii up to it as well. I can find this monitor for $400, but is there a cheaper option that would work just as/almost as well?

    Sorry if I rambled a little at the end there, like I said, any help at all would be appreciated.

    Thanks =D

    EDIT: To anyone who decides to come along and help me, i've made a few changes. I downgraded from Vista Premium to Vista Home Premium, and I switched out my 1600mhz ram for 1333mhz. Help still appreciated, particularly any comments about the video card/monitor and noise. Thanks!

    From what I have read...I don't think Vista is the operating system that one should be building a gaming computer around...XP will out preform Vista.

    Looks good to me, do go with vista though, I have it and it runs great. Especially with the high - end system you are building. Also, if you are getting 6 gigs of ram, windows xp will only see half of that if you're lucky, maybe less with the 1 gig video card,(video ram is included in the total under xp) so you'll be wasting menu on all of that expensive DDR3 Ram you will be buying... Also, be sure to install the 64 bit version of vista, because you will run into the same problem with the 32 bit version just like in XP.
