Hey fellas, I just have a few questions about my system. Here are my specs: Processor: AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual-Core 3800+ 2.0 GHz RAM: 4GB DDR OCZ Platinum Video Card: Radeon x1600 512 MB PCIe I just upgraded to 4 GB RAM and am considering a video card upgrade, as I have my HDTV hooked up through an HDMI/S-Video cable and am turning my computer into an all-in-one entertainment system. I would like to be able to watch High Def video and play high-performance games. However, I am a little curious about how much each of these upgrades will actually improve the performance of the computer. Forgive me if my questions are basic, but my knowledge is really quite limited. What I basically want to know is... Will a video card upgrade to, say, a GeForce 9600, or possibly a Radeon 4850, be a significant improvement over my current card? Would either of these cards "overkill" the other components of my system? By this I mean, will my processor not be fast enough to utilize the advantages of having 4 GB of RAM and an upgraded video card? Finally, I am looking for general advice. Are there better cost-benefit ratio cards than the ones I mentioned? Should I wait until I upgrade my motherboard/processor before attempting this nonsense? Am I neglecting something painfully obvious to anyone with the least knowledge of computers? Thanks in advance for your help.
