Help. XP not installing right

I just formatted my old computers hard disk as there was so much junk on it. The problem is that when i try and install it onto the emptry hard disk it keeps on telling me that it couldn't copy such and such a file correctly. Its not always the same file and if it does manage to install, even with a few files missing, the main OS installation sometimes stops and throughs up various errors. I have installed it now, but half of windows is missing. Media player isn't there, and IE is also missing. I swapped my hard disk with the one from my new computer and installed windows alright. heres my sys specs:

ms - 6378 ver1 or something like that
seagate hard disk
 
You should test your RAM to make sure it's kosher. Try the bootable RAM testing tool Memtest86+. Also, be positive that the jumpers are set properly on all of your devices (CDROMs and HDDs). Remember, Master drives on the end of the cable, Slave in the middle. The Cable Select setting can ocassionaly cause problems, even after it's been working properly for a while.
