Being fairly new to this Forum I have just spent a really enjoyable hour or so looking through the Free Download thread. :good:

I was looking for a 'Secret Surfer' or something similar to hide IP address but couldn't find anything.

Anybody know of a free download please that really works :)

why are you trying to hide you IP address?

I'm guessing that your looking to browse blocked websites from school/work... if so, I'll quite happily lend a hand :D

LOL, I could see that coming!

Okay, so rebekka, you could always use a Proxy Server

Hope were not off-topic, but if megamaced's suggestion is blocked by your school/work's content filters then try some of the proxy servers in this google search

Thanks guys - but school? - I wish.. lol !

I may be a 'Geek Trainee' but I am retired and trying to sort my pc out with the help of all you knowledgeable people here on HF.

I thought that as I am googling all over the place it would be wise to block my IP - well that's what I read somewhere. So would Firefox be suitable for my purpose?

rebekka, Your IP address is like your house address... you cant hide it because it needs to be attached to anything you send to anyone on the internet for them to reply, however, you can be annonymous by using a proxy server (much like a PO box).

There are quite a few companys offering theese services, but obviously you have to pay for them (free services, while a nice idea, are generally very very slow). Unless your blogging about a sensitive political subject (etc) and fear being publically exposed then there isn't much point in hiding your real address.

https://www.relakks.com/?lang=eng is a company offering such a service if you need it, but using it wont make your computer any more secure (it will just make it look like your in sweeden! :p)

    Hi Impotence
Thanks for your reply. I realise what you are saying about IP address is like my house address but had read somewhere that it could be used to gain information and maybe access to computers - perhaps that is not true?
and perhaps I am being a bit paranoid through hearing about all these hacker problems etc.
As you are much more knowledgeable than I am, I will take your advice and leave my IP as it is :D
