Hey I am getting a refund for my macbook as to put it simply, it wiped all my coursework. Luckily i had most backed up. But as i have now finished most of my coursework i don't have a need for the laptop anymore. So i plan to get my refund and invest in a big ass tv as well as other extra's FWI I will be replacing the macbook when the new 8 core macbook pro's come out and the price of the duel core 2 drops. I think this is going to be in July round about the time leopard emerges. Not the issue anyway. As im 15 i cannot afford to pay the 300 quid sky box and how much per month for 10 channels of HD content. What im planning to do is download most from the net. The main content i will be watching is documentary's e.g. Planet Earth. I currently have over 100gb's worth of content ready for me. Note: I am living in the UK therefore it is legal to download any of the BBC's program's. My problem is i need to know my best way of getting this to my TV without losing the quality. My TV, well the TV is going to be a 42" LCD supporting 1080i. Probs a Toshiba WLT66. I am also thinking of buying one of these for my PC. VGA EN7600GT/HTDI/2 256MB PCIe 2DVI2VGA It has a HDMI output so i won't be losing quality. But i would prefer to stream it through my 360 and watch it on media center. As, being honest, it's a hell of a lot nicer to use. It's what i do now to watch standard video's. (you guy's helped me with it a while back) I am however thinking that my DG834G router may not be able to support the bitrate of the HD file. I don't really want to invest in a new router as im really going to be pretty much broke after buying this TV. So is it possible to run my PC connected to my router but not connected the net. I figure this way it would free the router up and allow the HD content to be streamed effectively. I have however just been watching a 720p Planet earth episode using WIFI on my macbook. Although it play's ok, but you can still notice small jumps. So, what do you guy's think of my proposals or do i have other options? One more thing, is that video card any good for gaming? I don't much but id really like to be able to play crysis when it comes out though it. Cheers
With wireless, you're really going to struggle watching 1080i content streaming. The only option if you want to stream it is to connect with a physical ethernet cable, this should give you a much faster connection compared to 802.11g.
Yeah, i should of mentioned i planned on doing that. I do however have one problem with it. When i use my xbox to stream hd, it jitters like hell. Could it just be the xbox interface or could it be that my internet was constantly dropping? I wouldn't think so myself as the lan is not primarily needed to be connected to the net to function.
Depends on the quality of the router, any barriers in the signal path, and any sort of electromagnetic interference (radio, microwaves, etc). Also 802.11g is limited to 54Mbps, where the typical wired LAN runs 100Mbps...nearly double the speed. There's also a covering of the wire and sometimes shielding (with STP-Shieled Twisted Pair). The location of the router and the XBox, computer, or other device using a wireless connection is another factor, encompassing some of what I've already cited, plus other factors.
