Sup all, tomorrow I should have HL2 up and running!! Yes! can't wait, :) but just to keep this from being a full fledged gloating thread I'd like to have a little confirmation that dial-up users can play online okay, I expect a little lag on most servers but is it pointless? I get about 45k or so, am I totally dead in the water? Thanks guys, hopfully we can frag each other some time. ;)

your completely dead in the water. You'll be timing out very often. Just wait until you have to download the updates :)

Crap, figures, can't get squat where I live (in eastern Maine, an "unorganized territory" actually, even below a town:() Belive me I've contacted verison about DSL, looked into all the options elsewhere, probably by the time I graduate they'll "concider" adding a line up our way and "it will be here shortly" Just out of curiosity what're the upload/download speeds of ADSL?

if your looking into adsl, might as well get cable. It's not much more here. Comcast has like $30 for 3 month specials, free installation, free gear. My speeds through comcast are 6mb-down/1mb-sec up.

Sweet if I were you I'd totally get it mate. Those are really good specs too.
Oh, and unfortunately I'll have to push back the day I get HL2 up and running a day, :(

You can always create your own server and just use bots. Its kinda sucky but better than nothing.

    Or!

For the low, low, LOW price of £112 a month! You could get the new internet connection released in Hong Kong! Yes, for a mere £112 a month you can get a 1Gbps(!!!!) adsl internet connection! (Please note this is only avaliable in Hong Kong... for the moment!)

That plus the new TB hard drive in development by Hitachi equals ULTRA DOWNLOAD SPREE! :D

Another good reason to move to the far east...

But, yeah, for multiplayer, anything recent is going to choke on 56k.

Hehe, that's pretty funny WWR, yeah the far east is the place to be for tech, always has been, wish Verison actually cared about remote locations, particularly where I live...

    Why, thank you. :D

I wouldn't want to live in the Far East, they upgrade technology almost as soon as it's released. Although, they've started development on that Terabyte harddrive at about the same time I've almost filled up my twin 200Gb harddrives, I wonder if they're trying to hint? ;)

Good point, that would totally suck to buy something you thought was so cool, only to find that something way better is coming right out. 1Tb eh, that's pretty cool, they've got external ones as we all know but internal is pretty impressive.

i think the new amd processors will be able to handle up to 26 petabytes and a couple billion megs of ram haha (i think they come after the dual cores sometime in 2008.) when they enforce new processor architecture on guess wat, a new interface, but 939 should be top interface until then. woo

I remember hearing a few months ago that about a week or so after new technology is released in England there's already something better either out or in dev, I forget which.
