Hey all. First-timer here, so please call me out on any n00bness encountered. I'm not a hardware guru by any means, and have never had the need to delve into using RAID setups. However, I've had a number of hard-drive failures recently, and have decided to use my home file-server as a backup server too, using RAID. However, in order to reduce the risk of data loss, I'm wanting to set up the server in a RAID 1 configuration (using software RAID - performance is not a huge issue for me, but cost is ), with two disks. Now, sure, there are any number of tutorials on the web to point out how to set up a RAID 1 configuration, using two disks. The one thing I can't find is how to set up a RAID 1 array in this sort of format (I'm not even sure this is possible): - 1x 80GB SATA HDD, used to house the operating system (Linux) - 2x500GB SATA HDD linked through SATA 1, containing the data. At the moment, I have a similar setup for my home server - the 80GB HDD contains the OS, and I have a 500GB HDD mounted as a purely data partition. So, basically, I'm wanting to add a second 500GB HDD, and have the 2 500GB HDD mirrored using RAID 1. Firstly, is this even possible; and secondly, can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial that can show me how to do this? Thanks!
